It’s an easy joke—driving a golf ball vs. driving a car—which is why we’re not going to make it. We can’t stop you from going for it, but sometimes when you watch a viral video, the quips are a bit too easy.

Regardless, since no one was injured, we can all still laugh at this video of an allegedly inebriated driver navigating his SUV onto Charlotte University’s Topgolf driving range a little after midnight on Sunday. According to a report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the suspect damaged property and threatened staff. There are, of course, many videos of the incident, including one enterprising golfer upset that someone’s “cutting into” his time.

The North Carolina Topgolf location has put up a temporary fence for the time being, which, according to the CMPD report, will cost at least $5,000 in damage. And this is all after the man was spotted urinating in the parking lot pre-joyride.

“It was kind of shocking at first because I didn’t believe it,” Laudyn Provost, who recorded the joy ride, told Queen City News. “I didn’t know what the heck it was at first.

“The first floor started to panic when he started towards them. If I was on the first floor, I would have panicked too, but I was on the second floor, luckily. I don’t know, he was kind of out of control in a way.”

Some patrons attempted to fire golf balls at the SUV, with many yelling at the “confused” driver to get off the range. Provost mentioned that there was a gap in the net where he believes the car snuck in. Despite the damage, the driving range has already reopened and a search is apparently still underway for the driver.

“We’re aware of the incident that occurred at Topgolf Charlotte University this weekend,” Topgolf said in a statement. “The safety of our Players and Playmakers is our top priority, and we are grateful that no one was injured. The nets have temporarily been repaired, and the venue is open for normal operations.”
