The NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega took a wild turn when an incident took out the majority of the cars in the field after 115 laps. Footage of the incident highlights a series of chain reactions, dropping visibility to near zero in those moments as a cloud of dust took over a section of Talladega Superspeedway.
The incident took place 15 laps into the second stage, when Bubba Wallace was leading the race from the middle lane, while Ross Chastain was right on his tail. Wallace was hit from behind, and he went up the track into Cole Custer and towards the outer wall.

This caused a chain reaction, as cars came down the track all the way from the third row. Around 25 cars were caught in the incident that caused a huge cloud of dust.
The race was then red-flagged, leading to a cleanup, while affected drivers were taken to the infield medical center. Some cars that could not be driven had to be towed back.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the drivers were released from the medical center. According to a report by Motorsport.com, the list of drivers involved in the crash includes “Cindric, A. Dillon, Larson, Keselowski, Suarez, Busch, Hamlin, Blaney, Briscoe, Berry, Logano, Wallace, Byron, Love, Custer, Nemechek, Jones, Gase, Reddick, Ware, Gibbs, Finchum, McDowell, Hocevar, and Zilisch.”

Eventually, only 20 cars were left on the lead lap, some of which had sustained minor damage. Wallace, whose car took a major hit, opened up after the big one:
“Damn, nothing to show for it in the first stage. Just trying to figure out the strategy stuff, and just hate it for our team. Don’t want to have any DNFs, we have two now. Just a bummer, but we got to figure out how to be pushed better. So, I take responsibility on that. We’ll have a good debrief and figure out what we can do to make our Toyotas be pushed better, and maybe not have that happen.”
After the race restart, Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar went on to win the race, securing his first NASCAR Cup Series win.
