Carmelo Hayes was having a strong run with the United States Championship

Since dethroning Ilja Dragunov to win the US Championship, Hayes defended it nearly every single week on the blue brand. He held the title for 98 days and defended it against almost the entire mid-card division on SmackDown.

Hayes elevated himself and the title in the process, and it would be a huge missed opportunity for WWE to not let him feature on their biggest show of the year after such a solid run.

Fans have been clamoring to see Hayes inserted in the title match

The WWE Universe was quite shocked to see the title suddenly change hands last week after the reign that Hayes was having. Immediately, fans took to social media to voice their disappointment with the company’s booking.

Reports suggest that the creative team is aware of the fan backlash and is monitoring the fans’ requests to insert Hayes back into the title picture. Even though the rematch clause has been scrapped, it seems unlikely that the company will leave him off the card altogether. As a result, it could just be a matter of time before we receive confirmation of Hayes being added to the US Title match at WrestleMania.

Making it a Triple Threat would allow WWE to revisit the Hayes-Williams feud

Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes have a lot of history with one another. They teamed up in NXT before feuding, with things ending after Hayes moved up to the main roster.

Williams was partially responsible for his former teammate losing the title after he interfered in the match. As a result, Hayes could come out seeking an explanation and demand a rematch, which could later be made official by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.

WWE could play off the history between the two men from their time in NXT to add further appeal to the upcoming clash in Las Vegas.
