In 2016, Nakamura left NJPW and made his way to the Stamford-based promotion. He joined the company’s developmental show NXT. He debuted in an iconic match with Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: Dallas event on April 1st 2016 and picked up the win. Shinsuke Nakamura has now completed a decade in WWE as today marks the 10th anniversary of the bout.

Shinsuke Nakamura recently had an iconic match with AJ Styles on WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

AJ Styles had agreed to put his career on the line against Gunther for an opportunity to seek revenge on him. The Ring General had previously disrespected John Cena on multiple occasions after beating him in his retirement match which had angered the Phenomenal One.

Before Styles went on to face Gunther, Nick Aldis had set up a match between AJ and Nakamura at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The two stars had an iconic bout at the event which had a lot of callbacks to their Wrestle Kingdom 10 match from NJPW. The Phenomenal One beat Shinsuke in one of the best matches of his WWE career.

Styles then lost to Gunther at the Royal Rumble PLE, marking the end of his in-ring career.
