According to BodySlam+, the feud with Dragon Lee was supposed to lead to a match against Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42. It plays along with the Austrian star’s current moniker of The Career Killer since Mysterio is already a WWE Hall of Famer and is closer to retirement than most stars on the roster.

However, Mysterio suffered a rib injury before the Royal Rumble, and it’s unclear if he’ll get cleared before WrestleMania 42. The report added that it’s unknown if WWE has a backup program for Gunther or if he’ll even have a match at Show of Shows in Las Vegas.

The Ring General had so much momentum after retiring three legends: Bill Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles in a span of three months. It will be intriguing to see if WWE risks stalling his momentum as a villain by not giving him a match at WrestleMania 42.

Gunther initially rumored to face Oba Femi or Brock Lesnar

In addition to Rey Mysterio, Gunther reportedly had other options for WrestleMania 42, including Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar. However, WWE has moved forward with Oba vs. Lesnar after an electric face-off on Monday’s episode of Raw.

Seth Rollins initially looked like he was about to be Lesnar’s opponent at WrestleMania after The Beast came out to avenge Paul Heyman. The Ruler suddenly came out to confront Lesnar, who looked worried for a bit.

In what was one of the best Raw openings in recent memory, Oba easily picked up Lesnar for a Fall From Grace powerbomb. He stood tall and even put his foot on the WWE legend’s chest as the San Antonio crowd cheered.
