PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Rory McIlroy is the defending champion of the Players Championship, capturing his second title at TPC Sawgrass last year in a three-hole playoff

However, there’s doubt growing for McIlroy being able to defend due to a back injury he suffered Saturday, one that forced him to withdraw before the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He hurt his back in the gym while working out before the round and felt it spasming while warming up, prompting him to WD from Bay Hill.
