Since last year, there have been teases of tension between the two stars, who were part of The Legacy faction over a decade ago. Rhodes accidentally hit the 14-time World Champion with a Cody Cutter at Royal Rumble, while the Apex Predator capitalized on McIntyre’s interference at Elimination Chamber to drop his friend with an RKO to win the match.

They will now face each other at the Show of Shows in Las Vegas for the gold. Orton has made it clear that he wants to add a 15th World Title to his name, and following Rhodes’ win on SmackDown, a backstage footage showed his reaction.

In the video posted on Instagram, he can be seen watching the outcome on a screen backstage. Randy Orton turns around to show a hint of a smile across his face. In the caption of the video, he mentioned he will see Rhodes next week on SmackDown in Phoenix, Arizona.

Cody Rhodes beat Randy Orton last year

Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes share a long history in WWE. Orton took a young Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. under his wing to form The Legacy stable in 2008.

The group eventually imploded, leading to a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 26, which was won by Orton.

However, since his return to WWE, Rhodes has been on an impressive run. Apart from winning the WWE Championship, he has won the Royal Rumble twice and beat his former mentor in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament last year at the Night of Champions premium live event.

The two stars will now write a new chapter in their storied history in Las Vegas next month.
