The report further stated that while a location hasn’t been confirmed, Nashville, Tennessee is being considered for the second edition of this year’s event.
What happened in the last edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event?
The last edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24th was an unusual one as it only featured a total of three matches, while four were originally scheduled. It goes with the theme of WWE wanting to keep fewer matches on special cards so as not to crowd them out, but at the same time, three matches seemed a tad bit less for a show of that caliber.
In the opening match of the night, Rhiyo (Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky) defeated Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships. In the second match, AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura went to war one last time, just a week before Styles had to call it quits on his legendary wrestling career when he lost to Gunther at the Royal Rumble. Cody Rhodes vs Jacob Fatu was also a scheduled match, but it technically never happened as the bell rang, and instead, we got a brawl for the ages.
In the main event, Sami Zayn would overcome the odds to defeat the young upstart Trick Williams, the veteran ex-World Champion Damian Priest, and the legendary Randy Orton, who is now set to compete for World Title #15 at WrestleMania 42 after winning the Elimination Chamber match.
Of course, the previous edition of SNME in December will go down as the most memorable one in a while, as it saw the end of the incredible career of John Cena, who concluded his retirement tour by tapping out to Gunther.
It will be interesting to see what WWE has planned if the show is, indeed, just a week before Clash in Italy.
