Friday’s main event at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall between Conor Quinn and Wrexham’s Jake Dodd has been cancelled.

The pair were initially due to fight for the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title, but Belfast’s Quinn failed to make the 8st limit at Thursday’s weigh-in.

It was expected the fight would go ahead with the title on the line for Dodd only, but the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) requested the fight didn’t go ahead as they “didn’t like the look” of Quinn on the scales, according to his manager Jamie Conlan.

“They just told me they didn’t like the look of him and had concerns – that was it,” Conlan told BBC Sport NI.

“There were no tests done or medical failed, but the fight is off at the request of the Board.

“We’re disappointed and Conor is disappointed, but our hands are tied.”

The event will proceed with Paddy Gallagher’s return to the ring upgraded to main event.

Gallagher, who claimed gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, has not boxed since losing by way of technical decision against Chris Jenkins in a British and Commonwealth welterweight title fight in August 2019.
