The most drama on Sunday at Riviera may have actually been a little ways down the leaderboard at the Genesis Invitational.
That’s because while Jacob Bridgeman began the day with a six-shot lead that grew to seven at one point before the 26-year-old hung on for a one-shot victory, there was a historic PGA Tour streak on the line involving Scottie Scheffler. And the World No. 1 made a valiant effort to keep it going.

Scheffler entered the week having recorded a staggering 18 consecutive top 10s on tour, but it looked like the streak would surely end when he was four over through 26 holes and in danger of missing the cut. Of course, he rallied to stick around for the weekend and then made a furious back-nine rally on Sunday, including this late birdie on 15:
As you can see, Scheffler’s streak is easily the longest of its kind since the tour began keeping official stats in 1983. Even Tiger Woods never managed more than 12 consecutive top 10s. And it looked like Scheffler would continue the streak after posting a back-nine 31 and a final-round 65 to climb into the top 10. Again. But not so fast!
Tommy Fleetwood wound up vaulting past Scheffler thanks to an eagle hole out from 173 yards on No. 15. And Cameron Young birdied his final three holes to move past Scheffler. Those events wound up dropping Scheffler down into a T-12 to end his remarkable run at 18 straight top 10s.

“I mean I’ve never been one to quit so it’s not really—I mean, I’d feel pretty silly to quit in a PGA TOUR event,” Scheffler told reporters after. “Overall, being out here and competing, that’s what I love to do and, like I said, got to go out early yesterday on some fresh greens, get a little bit less wind. It’s easier playing in the morning than it is late in the day. Took advantage of it. Then I had another solid day today.”
A T-12 at a signature event is a solid result as well. And if that’s considered a bad week for Scottie Scheffler, then he’s still doing a lot right.
