Marco Penge has been named the 2025 Seve Ballesteros Award winner ahead of Rory McIlroy.

The award recognises the best golfer of the season and is voted for by the DP World Tour players.

Penge and McIlroy were the two leading contenders, and the Englishman has come out on top this time.

He had three victories on the Tour last season: the Hainan Classic, the Danish Golf Championship and the Open de Espana.

The 27-year-old also had five top-10 finishes and climbed into the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Penge has now reacted to winning the award named after one of Europe’s greatest ever golfers, Ballesteros.

Penge was delighted to receive the award from his DP World Tour peers, celebrating his outstanding 2025 season.

The achievement also carries extra meaning given that it is associated with former world number one Ballesteros.

“I feel incredibly honoured to have won this prestigious award,” Penge said, via the DP World Tour website.

“I had a great season last year on the DP World Tour, but to have that recognised by my fellow competitors really means a lot. I want to say a big thank you to all of them.

“To go from fighting to keep my card to winning an award that carries Seve’s name in the space of a year is something I’m incredibly proud of, and I’m grateful to my team for their support.

“It gives me huge confidence and motivation to keep pushing for more this season.”

Seve’s son, Javier Ballesteros, wrote a heartfelt message to Penge after his success was announced.

Javier explained that the Ballesteros “admired” his journey from the mini tours to the big stage of the DP World Tour.
