Liverpool came close to selling Andy Robertson to Tottenham during the winter transfer window.

Spurs came forward with an offer for the long-serving left-back – with a price of around £5m floated in the media. It would have made sense for the Premier League champions to offload the Scotland captain – provided the right conditions were met.

They would remove his £160k per week wages from the budget and bank a tidy fee for a player signed for £8m back in 2017.

And with the FIFA World Cup on the horizon it would have benefitted Robbo to get some first-team football before the summer.

Several teams interested in free deal for Robertson

But the deal fell apart when Liverpool were unable to cover Robertson’s absence by ending Kostas Tsimikas’ Roma loan early. As it stands Robertson is expected to see out the season at Anfield before moving on to a new club in summer.

There remains the possibility that Liverpool offer the defender a new contract but that may require a reduction in his wages.

Spurs will be right there for his signature while there has been a long-standing interest from Robertson’s childhood favourites Celtic too.

And a report in TEAMtalk now puts forward TWO new Premier League teams as potential suitors in a free transfer chase for Robertson.

Robertson wanted by Villa and Newcastle

“Other Premier League sides, including Newcastle United and Aston Villa, are also monitoring the situation,” the report reads.

Robertson still has plenty to offer even though he’s lost his place as a starter on Merseyside.

Milos Kerkez was acquired for £40m from Bournemouth last summer with Robbo’s performances showing a noticeable decline during the 2024/25 Premier League title win.

But he’s pushed the young Hungarian all the way for his place in the team this season with Arne Slot often turning to the more experienced head for an alternative at left-back.

His future right now is very much undecided – but he is going to have no shortage of suitors if no agreement can be reached over a new contract.
