Tiger Woods is known to be particular about a lot of things when it comes to his golf game, and one of those is his golf shoes. Throughout his career, he’s always looked for a lot of structure in his golf shoes, and spikes for aggressive traction on the outsoles. The search for the right golf shoe eventually led him to helping design shoes for his Sun Day Red line. The Pioneer Cypress, the first shoe launched by the company, had everything you’d expect: a classic look, excellent support, and a traction pattern that includes spikes. At a Jan. 20 TGL match, however, Tiger was wearing something completely different.
Woods is part of the Jupiter Links Golf Club, though he’s currently not playing in 2026. He came out with his team wearing a spikeless shoe that hadn’t been seen before. The shoe isn’t even on Sun Day Red’s website year and won’t be available until Feb 17. But I was able to see it at the 2026 PGA Show.

The shoe gets its stability from a plate that runs from the big toe, through the arch, down to the outer edge of the heel. This stiff plate prevents rolling and doesn’t let the shoe twist during the swing. The external heel counter adds even more stability.
“When you’re working with Tiger, the goal is always to enhance performance for elite golfers,” Charley Hudak, senior creative director of footwear, said in Sun Day Red’s press release. “The Torsional Traction Plate and Lateral Stability Brace work together with the external heel counter to change how the shoe performs. You feel more connected to the ground, more stable, and that lets you harness more power through your swing.”
Because this isn’t a spiked shoe, don’t plan on seeing Tiger competing in it. But this is something we can expect to see him in at TGL and maybe while he’s following Charlie at junior tournaments.
