The company addressed the situation today on social media and officially announced that Femi had relinquished the NXT Championship. You can check out the company’s announcement in the post below.

“🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 After his victory at #NewYearsEvil, Oba Femi has officially vacated the #WWENXT Championship. Stay tuned for more details,” wrote the promotion.

Femi signed with the company in 2021 and had a dominant run in NXT. He captured the NXT Championship twice and won the North American Championship during his time in WWE’s developmental brand.

Bill Apter compares Oba Femi to a major WWE star

Legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently compared Oba Femi to Brock Lesnar.

The Beast Incarnate demolished John Cena at Wrestlepalooza 2025 and was on the winning team in the Men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series last November. Speaking with Mark Henry on his Apter Chat show on YouTube, the veteran journalist predicted that Femi would be the next Lesnar in the company. Apter added that he was hoping to see Femi versus Lesnar on WWE television in the near future.

“To me, the next Brock Lesnar is Oba Femi. The man, just the look, I haven’t seen fans take to a wrestler like him, and I hope they make him a monster heel because he against Lesnar, I think would be incredible and for him to go on a heel rampage and just destroy everybody. I think would be incredible,” Apter said.

Je’Von Evans was called up to the main roster this past Monday night and signed a contract with Adam Pearce to become the newest member of the RAW roster. It will be fascinating to see what the company has planned for Femi after he relinquished the NXT Championship.
