Dominik Mysterio has been riding high as the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion. But as they say, all good things must come to an end.
A WWE icon could be the endgame for Dominik Mysterio’s title reign if recent reports are to be believed.
“Dirty” Dom has been on the run of his life since winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. He has since defeated Penta, AJ Styles, and Rusev, to name a few, to solidify his title reign.
He is now gearing up to defend his title against both Penta and Rusev in a Triple Threat Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1.
During the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Dominik Mysterio is the favorite to retain his title, considering there are plans for him to face John Cena at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.
The wrestling journalist noted that The Cenation Leader is expected to dethrone the Judgment Day member and defend it against Gunther in his final match on December 13.
“The fourth match is Dominik Mysterio vs Penta vs. Rusev for the IC title. Mysterio would be the favorite given there was the plan a few weeks ago of John Cena winning that title from Mysterio at Survivor Series and defending against Gunther in his retirement match.”
Dominik Mysterio addresses the possibility of facing John Cena in WWE
In an interview with Tony Free, Dominik Mysterio said he wouldn’t mind putting the final nail in John Cena’s coffin.
“I mean, at the end of the day, I’m here. If John Cena wants some, he can come get some. He’s got four dates left, you said. I mean, if that old geezer wants me to put a final nail in his coffin, I’ll be more than happy to. You know, that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to be and stay your dirty double champ,”
With only four dates left in his retirement tour, it will be interesting to see how WWE will insert John Cena into the Intercontinental Title picture.
He is next advertised to appear on the November 10 episode of Monday Night RAW, which will take place in his hometown of Boston.
