WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has been involved in several memorable rivalries over the years. However, former WWE Diva Mickie James recently revealed that an iconic feud that Stratus was a part of was originally written for Lita.
In 2005, WWE introduced Mickie James as a huge fan of Trish Stratus. She then developed an obsession for the star, eventually turning into a psychotic stalker, kickstarting a highly acclaimed rivalry that culminated at WrestleMania 22. James defeated Stratus to win the WWE Women’s Championship on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
During her recent appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Mickie James revealed that she originally pitched the idea for Lita. The 46-year-old stated that she wrote eighteen weeks’ worth of television for the character after The Queen of Extreme’s approval.
“The original pitch that I had wrote for this character, or this crazy kind of superfan, was for Lita. She just helped me a lot, and I think she looked out for me, and I think she fought for me even in getting my job. So I felt comfortable asking her if I could pick her because I was like, ‘I have an idea for this wild character; it’s crazy, it’s different.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, of course.’ So then I wrote it, and I sat down, and I wrote 18 weeks of TV of this character and how she’s going to be, like, she’s a super fan,” James said.
Mickie James added that the wrestling promotion also greenlighted the idea but chose Trish Stratus in place of Lita. The TNA Hall of Famer said that she was taken aback for a bit, as she did not know Stratus personally at the time. However, things went smoothly, and they became great friends.
“And then they brought me in, and they were like, ‘We want to do that character.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, but we’re going to do it with Trish.’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t know Trish.’ I met her, and she was always pleasant. She was always amazing. The way she embraced it and embraced me, and we’re still best of friends,” James added.

Trish Stratus wrestled a WWE championship match earlier this year
Trish Stratus announced her retirement from in-ring competition in 2006. However, it has not stopped the veteran from making sporadic appearances. She has also competed in several matches since.
In 2025 alone, Stratus has wrestled thrice. The 49-year-old was one of the 30 stars to enter the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. The following month, she teamed up with Tiffany Stratton in a winning effort against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae at WWE Elimination Chamber.
However, at WWE Evolution, Trish Stratus challenged The Buff Barbie for the WWE Women’s Championship. Unfortunately, the veteran failed to secure the win against Stratton, who is still the champion.
It remains to be seen when Trish Stratus will make her next WWE appearance.
