A WWE star has announced that he was done with wrestling and had brought an end to his in-ring career. The confirmation came during a recent match.

Wade Barrett was commentating at WWE Crown Jewel, where he made it clear that his in-ring career was over. There was a point where IYO SKY was fighting back during her tag team match with Rhea Ripley, where she was facing Asuka.

The star was quite hurt and on the back foot, but still fighting back and taking hard blows. Asuka was being hit with open-handed slaps, which saw her falling down repeatedly. Barrett, who last wrestled back in 2016, was also observing the fight.

Much like Asuka, Barrett also followed the hard-hitting school of wrestling, and so was able to observe the force with which some of the blows connected. He immediately noted that he was happy to be retired, confirming the news the fans had been waiting for.

“Oof, I’m glad I’m retired.”

There had been speculation that Barrett would return to action at some point, but this comment effectively puts those rumors to rest. It seems that Nexus will never reunite again, at least in the ring.

Wade Barrett Had a Star-studded WWE Career that Ended Too Soon

Wade Barrett, now recognized as one of the best commentators in WWE, did not reach the heights fans thought he would. Given his physique and ability to get himself over with the likes of Bad News Barrett, it had been expected that he would win the world title at some point.

However, that never happened; instead, the star went on to wrestle for and win the Intercontinental Championship five times. At every point, he was seen as a top name, but when he was released as a wrestler, his career was still not at the level that the fans had expected.
