The Columbus Academy girls golf team and its No. 1 player are one round from lifting two more championship trophies after a strong first day of the Division II state tournament Oct. 6 at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro.

Junior Eva Lim, the defending individual champion, parred 11 holes and had three of her four birdies on the back nine, shooting a 1-under par 70 to own the individual lead by one stroke over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s Sophie Fink and Cincinnati Madeira’s Ellie Hartung.

Academy, the three-time defending state champion, shot 317 as a team and leads Madeira by 10 shots. Madeira was state runner-up a year ago.

Academy senior Nala Chebli is tied for eighth (75), followed by junior Meera Srini (85, tied for 24th), freshman Niya Chebli (87, tied for 29th) and sophomore Claire Zeiger (89, tied for 31st).

Central Ohio’s two individual qualifiers, Newark Catholic senior Caylee Lattimer and Logan Elm freshman Naomi Stahr, are 16th (79) and tied for 31st (89), respectively.

Middletown Fenwick is third in the team standings (343), followed by LaGrange Keystone (349), Chagrin Falls (364), Van Buren (377), Chillicothe Zane Trace (379), Archbold (387), Wauseon (387), Bucyrus Wynford (390), West Lafayette Ridgewood (391) and Piketon (414).

Final-round play begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 7. The National Weather Service forecast calls for showers and scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, with at least half an inch of rain possible.
