At Arena Castelão, São Paulo defeated Fortaleza 2-0 this Thursday (2nd), in the 26th round of the Brasileirão.
In the duel between Argentine coaches Hernán Crespo and Martin Palermo, it was the tricolor manager who came out on top.
São Paulo’s triumph was marked by resilience on the field, as from the first half, Rigoni committed a harsh foul on Deyverson and was shown a red card after a VAR review.
Before that, however, Rogoni himself reached the byline and crossed back, where Tapia finished to open the score for São Paulo.
In the second half, Laion threw themselves into attack searching for the equalizer, and Deyvinho overdid it with his effort, even sliding in with a tackle off the field.
But there was nothing they could do. In the final stretch, after a lethal counterattack, Enzo Díaz assisted Luciano, who, with no goalkeeper and no marking, extended the lead for Tricolor Paulista.
With this victory, São Paulo ended an 11-game winless streak against Fortaleza. Including two Copa do Brasil matches in 2021, there had been six defeats and five draws in this fixture.
The victory, after two straight defeats in the Brasileirão, left São Paulo with 38 points and in seventh place.
Fortaleza remains in second-to-last place with 21 points, behind Vitória (25 points) and Juventude (23 points), ahead of only Sport (15 points).
Tricolor Paulista returns to the field on Sunday (5th), when they host Palmeiras at MorumBIS, for the 27th round.
Laion, meanwhile, visits Juventude at Estádio Alfredo Jaconi on the same day.
