Is this already his farewell? In a statement that was spread via his social media channels, Gianluigi Donnarumma has commented for the first time on the rumors of his departure. He expressed disappointment that he was not included in the Supercup squad and was no longer part of the team.
“From the first day I arrived here, I gave everything – on and off the field – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain,” wrote the Italian goalkeeper. But despite his efforts, “someone decided that I should no longer be part of the team and contribute to the team’s success.” This decision made him disappointed and sad.
The 26-year-old was particularly affected because he could not yet end his contact with the fans in a dignified manner: “I hope I get another chance to look the fans in the eyes at Parc des Princes and say goodbye in the way it should be.” If this opportunity does not come, he emphasized: “Your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget them.” He will always carry the memories of “all the emotions, the magical nights and you, who made me feel at home.”
In addition to the fans, the goalkeeper also addressed his teammates, who are more than just fellow players to him: “To my teammates – my second family – I thank you for every fight, every laugh, and every shared moment. You will always remain my brothers.” One of these “brothers”, Ousmane Dembélé, already shared Donnarumma’s statement on Instagram.
For Donnarumma, it was a great honor to play for PSG: “Playing for this club and living in this city was a great honor.”
The signs are now pointing to a farewell. According to Fabrizio Romano, the PSG goalkeeper is heading to the Premier League to Manchester City. PSG has already signed Lucas Chevalier as his successor.
