Chris Eubank Jr. is paying an egg-spensive price for February’s press conference fiasco.
The IBO middleweight champion was fined £100,000 ($130,000) for breaking an egg across Conor Benn’s face with a powerful left-hand slap at the faceoff for their first press conference in Manchester, England, the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed Tuesday.
“Following a hearing before the Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control, Chris Eubank Jr. was found to be in breach of Regulation 25 (misconduct) for his conduct at the press conference in Manchester for the Chris Eubank Jr v Conor Benn contest on 26th April 2025,” the statement read.
“As such, the Stewards of the Board fined Chris Eubank Jr. the sum of £100,000.”
Benn and Eubank battle in an all-British grudge match on April 26 at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The second-generation fight has firmly captured the attention of the British public, as did the rivalry between their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, more than 30 years ago.
In 1990, Eubank Sr. stopped Benn to win the WBO middleweight title in a fight still widely considered to be one of the best in British boxing history. Three years later, 16.5 million people in Britain watched the pair fight to a draw at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United.
Their sons, Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, were set to reignite the rivalry in 2022, but the much-anticipated bout was canceled at the last minute after Benn’s positive test for Clomifene was revealed on fight week. The WBC eventually cleared Benn from wrongdoing, blaming the adverse findings on an “elevated consumption of eggs,” hence why Eubank Jr. smashed an egg on Benn at February’s faceoff.
The pair came head-to-head again in recent days to film an episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored” that will air Friday. From the back pages of major newspapers in Britain to prime-time slots on mainstream television channels, it is rare for boxing matches to generate the publicity that Eubank Jr. vs. Benn has in the UK.
