Despite agreeing to retire from the ring, several issues have raised concerns about a potential return. AJ Styles could return to WWE for the next four reasons.

#4. WWE set to pay tribute to him with an episode of RAW

WWE is billing the episode of RAW before the Elimination Chamber as a tribute to The Phenomenal One. The show emanates from Styles’ hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

Stars from both RAW and SmackDown are likely to appear, and the man himself should be present for the festivities. The fact that he’s being honored on the Road to WrestleMania suggests more could be in store for the former World Champion.

#3. Gunther continues to mock him every week

The Ring General isn’t slowing down with mocking his victories over John Cena and Styles. He continues to brag about his accomplishments, angering much of the WWE roster.

Dragon Lee, Styles’ former tag team partner, stood up for his absent partner, but Gunther destroyed him. Lee then got revenge by costing Gunther a chance to qualify for the Elimination Chamber.

The bragging can only last for so long before someone punches the bully in the mouth. It could be another friend of Styles, or Styles getting physical once again.

#2. Not laying his gloves in the ring after losing to Gunther

The biggest sign that an athlete or wrestler is done with in-ring competition is leaving gear in the ring. MMA fighters leave their gloves in the ring. Wrestlers have done the same with their boots, like John Cena.

Styles teased leaving his signature gloves in the ring after the loss, but picked them back up before departing.

That sign alone shows that The Phenomenal One isn’t quite done in the ring. It’s just a matter of when and where he wrestles again.

#1. Gunther cheated to win both of their showdowns

Styles and Gunther clashed twice in the last two months. The former World Heavyweight Champion cheated in both contests.

The first involved a clear tapout, but the referee couldn’t see it. Gunther then hit Styles with a lowblow to win. He used a lowblow yet again when the referee wasn’t paying attention in the second encounter.

Since both losses were marred, the competitive juices should continue to flow in any wronged performer. A star of Styles’ caliber can’t go out that way. Cena at least tapped out after a long encounter.
