While both superstars are equally capable of making it to the finals, Gunther still has an outside edge. In this listicle, we will discuss three reasons why Gunther should beat LA Knight on the blue brand this week.
#3 Gunther better opponent than LA Knight
Gunther needs to win because he would be a better opponent than LA Knight. He is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the longest reigning former Intercontinental Champion.
This was the reason that his mere entry into the tournament led many WWE fans to believe that he would beat all the other superstars in the tournament. Gunther wasn’t even around when this tournament was announced.
He came only in the second week and in his first match beat NXT superstar Je’Von Evans. Then, in his second match, he successfully defeated Carmelo Hayes to march to the semi-finals. And in the semi-final, he defeated Solo Sikoa to advance to the finals.
In essence, Gunther is supposedly WWE’s choice as John Cena’s final opponent. In fact, even before the tournament was announced, Gunther’s name was rumoured to be Cena’s final opponent.
#2 Gunther vs John Cena would be one hell of a match
John Cena and Gunther’s one-on-one contest would undoubtedly be a spectacle to watch. Both superstars are skilled masters of the game. While Cena has honed his skills in WWE, Gunther carries the experience from the Independent circuits and other wrestling promotions like Big Japan Pro Wrestling, Over the Top (OTT) wrestling and and wXw.
John Cena delivered two outstanding matches this year. One against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025, and the other mind-boggling match was against AJ Styles at Crown Jewel 2025. His match against Gunther would be something that every wrestling fan would be waiting to see.
#1 Gunther needs to win against John Cena to establish a legacy in WWE
Gunther should win the match against LA Knight and then beat John Cena to establish his legacy in the promotion. In July, The Ring General retired Goldberg in a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME). And if he now retires, John Cena at SNME, it will further brighten his prospects in WWE.
Moreover, it appears that WWE has chosen Gunther to replace Cena, and The Champ has even agreed to it. Cena has earlier put over superstars like Austin Theory, Solo Sikoa, Kevin Owens, and Roman Reigns. He will certainly let Gunther have the last laugh at SNME.
Most probably, the Austrian Scion is expected to walk out with a victory against LA Knight. It will be interesting to see how his match with Cena plays out. Will we see some other superstar from outside the promotion also return, or will it be only Cena vs Gunther on RAW?
