• The Ford Expedition turns 30 years old in 2027.
  • Ford is celebrating the occasion with a special 30th Anniversary Package.
  • The package includes special paint and badging.

The 1990s were when SUVs went mainstream, transitioning from utilitarian work vehicles into the comfortable family cars we know today. One of those SUVs was the Ford Expedition. It turns 30 years old in 2027, and Ford is celebrating the occasion with a 30th Anniversary Appearance Package.

The most striking aspect of the pack is the exterior paint color. It wears Ford’s Blue Ember metallic tri-coat, originally reserved for the Mustang Dark Horse, and comes with unique badging. The automaker pairs the exterior color with 22-inch high-gloss ebony wheels.

Inside, the Expedition features an embossed 30th anniversary badge on the sliding center console lid and the door sills. The anniversary pack will be available on Expeditions equipped with the Stealth Appearance Package and will be distinguished by the Salt Crystal Gray interior.

The automaker has sold nearly 3 million Expeditions since its launch in 1996 for the 1997 model year. There have been five generations of the SUV, with the Expedition spawning iconic special editions like Eddie Bauer.

The Newest Expedition

Ford introduced the fifth-generation Expedition for 2025. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine making 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. A high-output variant of the engine, available as standard in the Tremor and optional on the Platinum, can produce up to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. The engine pairs with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

While the exterior received an evolutionary update, the cabin received a significant makeover with an all-new dash design, new screens, a new steering wheel, and other tweaks. The digital instrument cluster is a 24.0-inch screen placed high on the dashboard near the base of the windshield.

Ford hasn’t released pricing for the appearance package, but we expect pricing to be announced closer to the SUV’s on-sale date. The 2026 Expedition starts at $65,495.

Motor1’s Take: The Ford Expedition has changed a lot since its introduction, becoming more capable, luxurious, and safer over the years. The fifth-generation is also twice as powerful as the original, and an appearance package to celebrate is a nice way to honor Ford’s iconic three-row SUV.
