Michigan State punctuated its Big Ten regular season title with a 79-62 win over rival Michigan on Sunday in East Lansing to solidify its standing as the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. The Spartans won each of their final seven games after a 1-3 start to February and bumped Michigan to a No. 3 seed in the process in the regular-season finale.

Sandwiched between the two Mitten State teams is Maryland, which won seven of its final eight games and 11 of its last 13 to wrap its regular season. The Terrapins went 14-6 in Big Ten play and matched their program record for most wins in the conference after joining the league from the ACC in 2013.

Of the 15 teams involved in the final bracket, five — Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Oregon and Purdue — are projected to be No. 4 seeds or better in the NCAA Tournament, according to Jerry Palm’s latest bracket. So the strength of the league should be on full display as we work through the bracket and crown a champ this week with the likes of UCLA, Illinois and Indiana among those lurking as sleeper contenders.
