Valencia CF’s center-back, Mouctar Diakhaby, has raised alarms in Carlos Corberán’s technical team due to his unusual accumulation of yellow cards at the start of this season. Despite being one of the team’s best news due to his excellent performance after overcoming a severe injury, the Franco-Guinean is becoming a sanction risk.
As reported by the newspaper Superdeporte, Diakhaby already has three warnings in just six League matches. The striking thing about the situation is his high ratio: the defender has only started in four games. This means that he is receiving a card too frequently, a statistic that worries the club.
This high number of warnings puts him one step away from being “warned” and just two cards away from serving his first match suspension. A loss of this magnitude would be a significant setback for the coach, especially considering the good level that Diakhaby has shown.
The center-back, who suffered a chilling knee injury in early 2024, has returned to the playing fields with a model recovery and has regained his position alongside César Tárrega, forming a pair of center-backs that, despite their short career, are emerging as Corberán’s choice.
His great start to the season at the level of play is beyond any doubt, but it is precisely his ease of being warned that keeps the team and its coach “on alert”, who will have to manage the sanction risk in the upcoming matches.
